Point and line

In his book "Point and Line to Plane' Wassily Kandinsky explores interrelation between colour, form, line direction and intensity of the point. How do these create an aesthetic experience?

I've created my own experiment, by enhancing my photos with lines and shapes from the symbols keyboard. Do they enhance aesthetic experience by mimicking existing shapes of the picture?
