Landscape photo
with something
Assignment 1:
Result:
Why war?
Physically I live in a beautiful landscape of The Netherlands, while mentally for the past 54 days I live in a war_landscape.
Russia — a country I was born in and a country I identify myself with — has attacked Ukraine — a country of my precious memories, a country of my relatives and friends, a country of my surname.
Why still-life?
A still-life is a way to freeze a moment, just as Putin is trying to freeze Ukraine and its natural development towards non-imperialistic future.
At the same time — the frame increases a distance between the observer and the war scene, just as there is a distance between our peaceful life and war.
Process:
Documentary photos of the event are a limitless source of the disaster, a mix of bravery and cruelty, filled with signs of life and death.
